SCIENTIFIC NAME

Euplagia quadripunctaria

DescrIption

I measure between 40 and 60 mm. I’m named after my coloration and the fact I frequent the Channel Islands. My forewings are black with yellow oblique zebra strips, while my hindwings are bright red with large black spots.

Behavior

Diet

At the adult stage, I gather flowers but my caterpillar eats numerous herbaceous (marsh thistle, nettle, milk thistle) and woody (beech, oak, etc.) plants.

REPRODUCTION

I lay my eggs on the leaves of a plant, in July-August.

Where and when can you find me in the reserve?
