IDENTITY RECORD
Common toad
SCIENTIFIC NAME
Bufo bufo
DescrIption
My skin ranging from red to green in color is covered in small wart-like lumps that tends to repel humans. However, I’m completely harmless! I measure between 7 and 13 cm and can weigh up to 120g. My horizontal slit-shaped pupils and copper-red irises give my eyes their distinctive embers look.
Behavior
Diet
I feed on insects but also worms and slugs.
REPRODUCTION
I breed between March and April in the pond where I was spawned. From the thousands of eggs laid, only two or three will survive to adulthood.
Lifespan
I live for between 10 and 12 years.
Where and when can you find me in the reserve ?
Habitat
I live in cool, wet woodland. I breed in the ponds, ditches and lakes where you will find me in the water all year round.
When to spot me
I am primarily nocturnal, but you might also cross my path in the forest during the day.
