DescrIption
I measure between 40 and 60 mm. I’m named after my coloration and the fact I frequent the Channel Islands. My forewings are black with yellow oblique zebra strips, while my hindwings are bright red with large black spots.
Behavior
Diet
At the adult stage, I gather flowers but my caterpillar eats numerous herbaceous (marsh thistle, nettle, milk thistle) and woody (beech, oak, etc.) plants.
REPRODUCTION
I lay my eggs on the leaves of a plant, in July-August.
Where and when can you find me in the reserve?
Habitat
I love wet habitats and the forest border.
When to spot me
You will usually see me on hot days between June and September, although I am also active at night.
