IDENTITY RECORD
Agile frog
SCIENTIFIC NAME
Rana dalmatina
DescrIption
I am a medium-sized reddish-brown frog. I am between 45 and 65 mm long. You might confuse me with my cousin, the common frog, but you can tell us apart from my long legs and uniformly light colored stomach. I can leap up to two meters in the air, hence my name.
Behavior
Diet
I live mainly on small insects.
Reproduction
I breed in spring and lay about 400-2,000 eggs that I attach to a branch or reed. They hatch between 20 and 30 days later.
Lifespan
I live for around five years.
Where and when can you find me in the reserve ?
Habitat
I live in the alluvial forests. I breed in various habitats including forest ponds, ox-bows and ditches.
When to spot me
You can see me from February to October. I hibernate during the four months of winter in burrows or crevices in the ground. I am one of the first amphibian species to emerge in spring.
